An armed robber fired a shot targeted at his victim but missed, and the bullet hit his colleague in the head killing him instantly at Baatsona, on the Spintex Road in Accra.
Another robber who was wielding a pump action gun then bolted with two mobile phones he took from their victims.
The Accra Regional Public Relations Officer, Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Effia Tenge, told The Ghanaian Times in Accra yesterday, that the body had been deposited at the Police Hospital mortuary for autopsy.
She said at about 3am yesterday, the suspected robbers went to a house at Baatsona, armed with a pump action gun, and had masked on their faces.
ASP Tenge said the two attacked a family of four and took their two mobile phones, adding that one of the robbers stood guard at the entrance while his colleague entered the room to operate.
ASP Tenge stated that the robber who was in the room with the victims, ordered them to give out their moneys, and that led to a struggle with one of them.
She said the one at the entrance realising that the police who had information about the robbery were closing in on them entered and saw that his colleague had been grabbed by the victim.
“In an attempt to free his colleague, he fired at the victim but missed and killed his accomplice,” she added.
ASP Tenge stated that the other robber bolted with the gun and the mobile phone.
She said efforts were being made to arrest the other accomplice.
